Branson John secures top-10 wrestling win as Maryland falls to Ohio State

The University of Maryland wrestling team hosted No. 2 Ohio State in their final Big Ten dual of the regular season, resulting in a 29-16 loss for the Terps.

A notable moment occurred at 197 pounds when No. 17 Branson John pinned Ohio State’s No. 10 Luke Geog at the 3:40 mark, earning his first career win over a top-10 opponent. The match drew an attendance of 1,114 fans.

Carter Young contributed bonus points for Maryland at 149 pounds with a major decision victory (14-3) over Brogan Fielding, marking his first extra-point win in Big Ten competition.

Mekhi Neal and Seth Digby each secured their first Big Ten wins of the season. Neal claimed a 4-1 decision at 157 pounds against Daxton Chase after breaking a tie with a late takedown. At 174 pounds, Digby won by sudden victory (6-1) over TJ Schierl.

Maryland will conclude its regular season on Friday, February 20 at 7:30 p.m., hosting Drexel for Senior Day and Alumni Day.
