Senior Branson John of the Maryland Wrestling team was named the Solomon Eye Physicians & Surgeons Terp of the Week, according to a March 23 announcement. The weekly honor recognizes a Maryland student-athlete who excels both on and off the field during the 2025–26 season.
John earned this recognition after becoming the 22nd All-American in Maryland Wrestling program history at the 2026 NCAA Wrestling Championships. He is also only the second wrestler from Maryland to achieve All-American status since 2019, placing eighth in his weight class at 197 pounds.
Despite being a true sophomore, John advanced through the consolation bracket to reach what is known as “the blood round” and secured his first All-American honor with a sudden victory win. This was his second consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships.
After losing his opening match, John rebounded with several key victories: he won by decision against No. 32 Blake Schaffer from Kent State (5–0), defeated No. 2 Rocky Elam from Iowa State (11–4), and clinched All-American status with a sudden victory over No. 10 Mac Stout from Pittsburgh (4–1).
The recognition highlights John’s determination and performance during one of collegiate wrestling’s most competitive events.
