Arizona State University’s wrestling team achieved notable results at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, with five wrestlers finishing in the top five of their respective weight classes. This marks the highest number of individual placements for the program at this event since 2010.
Redshirt sophomore Nicco Ruiz (165 lbs) and freshman Kyler Larkin (133 lbs) both secured second place finishes. Larkin was unable to compete in his championship match due to a medical forfeit. Redshirt sophomore Kaleb Larkin (149 lbs) finished third after accepting a medical forfeit in his final match. Graduate students David Szuba (heavyweight) and Chance McLane (157 lbs) placed fourth and fifth, respectively, after advancing through the consolation bracket following quarterfinal losses.
Arizona State finished fifth in team scoring with 92 points, its best result at the tournament since placing third in 2019. The Sun Devils have now been among the top five teams at this invitational five times under head coach Zeke Jones since 2014.
Ten Arizona State wrestlers contributed to the team’s total points, combining for a record of 29 wins and 17 losses against strong national competition.
The next event for Sun Devil Wrestling will be a dual meet against Wisconsin on Saturday, December 20, at Wisconsin Field House.
