Virginia Tech freshman Aaron Seidel secured All-American honors and advanced to the national semifinals in his first appearance at the NCAA Wrestling Championships on March 20. Seidel, seeded fourth, will face top-seeded Jax Forrest in a highly anticipated semifinal match scheduled for 8 p.m. Eastern Time.

Seidel’s achievement marks him as only the third true freshman in Virginia Tech program history to earn All-American status. His performance has drawn attention as he has outscored his opponents by a combined margin of 55-7 without giving up an offensive point, recording three technical falls along the way. Forrest, his upcoming opponent, has also dominated his side of the bracket with a score differential of 46-6, including two technical falls and a pin.

The semifinal between Seidel and Forrest is being called one of the most anticipated matches of the tournament. The winner will advance to Saturday night’s final against either Ben Davino from Ohio State or Marcus Blaze from Penn State.

Other Virginia Tech wrestlers are also competing for podium finishes. Eddie Ventresca, seeded second at 125 pounds, dropped a close quarterfinal match but remains in contention for his third career All-American honor through the consolation bracket. Collin Gaj, another freshman for Virginia Tech, continues his run in consolations after picking up key wins over Brock Herman and Koy Buesgens.

The results from Day 2 Session 3 included victories and losses across several weight classes for Virginia Tech athletes. Notably, Gaj defeated Buesgens by decision and Herman by major decision to keep his tournament hopes alive.

As competition continues in Cleveland’s Rocket Arena, all eyes remain on Seidel’s historic run and whether he can continue his success into the championship round.
